An Investigation into the Use of Net-Conferencing Groupware in Simulation Modelling
نویسندگان
چکیده
Simulation modellers are major users of software tools. Advances in computing such as collaborative working tools and distributed technologies have created new possibilities for innovation in simulation modelling. Collectively, we address these as Collaborative Support for Simulation Modelling (CSSM). To contribute to CSSM, we consider the problem of whether or not it is possible to support human-to-human collaboration in simulation modelling through the use of commonly available groupware technology. The paper reviews aspects of human-to-human collaboration in the simulation modelling process and introduces an example of commonly available groupware technology, the net-conferencing groupware tool NetMeeting. Results of a survey into the perceived use of NetMeeting in simulation and some resulting applications of the net-conferencing tool that have emerged are presented.

Proceedings of the 2000 Winter Simulation Conference
This paper recognises that good communication and interaction are key factors to the success of a simulation project and suggests that groupware technology can increase the chances of success. To underline this, the paper reviews the process of simulation to illustrate the amount of communication and interaction that must take place during a simulation project. The paper then discusses computer...
متن کاملeTutorials with voice groupware: an investigation into real-time conferencing to support M206 students at a distance
This paper reports on an investigation into the use of real-time voice groupware to support students on a computing course offered by the Open University, UK. The main objective of the investigation was to assess the feasibility and pedagogical advantage of deploying synchronous conferencing technology on a large population computing course to complement existing face-to-face and asynchronous o...
متن کاملInvestigation of Collimator Influential Parameter on SPECT Image Quality: a Monte Carlo Study
Background: Obtaining high quality images in Single Photon Emission Tomography (SPECT) device  is the most important goal in nuclear medicine. Because if image quality is low, the possibility of making a mistake in diagnosing and treating the patient will rise. Studying effective factors in spatial resolution of imaging systems is thus deemed to be vital. One of the most important factors in S...
متن کاملInvestigation of concentration polarization in a cross-flow nanofiltration membrane: Experiment and CFD modelling
Numerous researches have been investigated on the mass transfer phenomena and hydrodynamics for the fluid in the vicinity of the membrane surface by the mathematical modelling and simulation. Due to complexities involved in solving transport phenomena within membranes, the application of CFD simulation study for determining the concentration polarization (CP) profile in the membrane channel is ...
متن کاملRealising Real Time Multimedia Groupware on the Web
Real-time audio and video conferencing has not yet been satisfactorily integrated into web-based groupware environments. Conferencing tools are at best only loosely linked to other parts of a shared working environment. This is mainly due to the special Quality of Service (QoS) requirements that these types of resources demand. This paper describes an approach to overcoming this problem by inte...
